Staten Island man killed in bicycle accident

Accidents can affect more than just the person who was injured. A fatal accident has a rippling effect. Loved ones deal with many layers of tragedy as they cope with their loss, navigate the estate of the deceased, plan a funeral and burial and question what caused the accident and if someone can be held responsible.

Fatal Bicycle Accident

Based on recent reports, a man was recently struck and killed in a bicycle accident in Staten Island. The accident occurred when a motorist clipped the cyclist as they were both traveling along the road in the same direction.

According to the victim’s wife, the 52-year-old man was biking to a grocery store to pick up a meal for their dinner when a motorist struck him around 10:15 a.m. near the corner of Wilson Avenue and Armstrong Avenue in Great Kills.

The accident remains under investigation. It was reported that the cyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Criminal charges were not immediately filed against the motorist, and it is not clear if any are currently filed.

In a fatal accident, cause and liability needs to be established when moving forward with a wrongful death action. This is not always easily accomplished, as additional investigation is likely needed. However, if liability is proven, you could be successful with this action and the recovery of compensation to address the losses suffered.

A wrongful death claim is not an easy legal action to initiate and work through. Emotions are heavy throughout the whole process, making it important that you do not do this alone. Legal representation can ease the difficulty of this process, ensuring you understand your rights and options when moving forward with a wrongful death action.
